Canon PowerShot A620 Review

Review Date: Jan 5, 2006

Canon PowerShot A620

Photoxels Editor's Choice 2006  Canon PowerShot A620 wins DIWA Gold Award

Category: Beginner to Serious Amateur

The Canon PowerShot A620 replaces the A95 with a few changes:

  • 7.1MP resolution on a 1/1.8 in. image sensor
  • a slightly larger 2 in. LCD monitor (it still flips and rotates)
  • VGA (640 x 480 pixels) movies at 30fps (recording up to a maximum of 1 GB at one time)
  • enhanced macro as close as 1 cm (0.4 in.)
  • USB 2.0 Hi-Speed for high-speed image transfers with a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed compatible computer

The Canon A620 features a shutter speed range from 15-1/2,500 sec., full exposure flexibility with 20 Shooting Modes, including 8 special easy-to-use Scene Modes, and even Custom White Balance for accurate colour reproduction under artificial light.

Optional accessories for the Canon A620 include: Deluxe Soft Compact Case PSC-60; Wide Converter WC-DC58N and Tele Converter TC-DC58N (both require Conversion Lens Adapter LA-DC58F); and 52mm Close-up Lens 250D. Recognizing that the built-in flash can sometimes be too weak to illuminate distant subjects properly, Canon also provides an optional High Power Flash HF-DC1. For those into underwater photography, there is a Waterproof Case WP-DC90 effective at depths of up to 40 meters (130 feet).

The Canon PowerShot A620 (just like the A610 with 5.0MP resolution) is one of our recommended affordable entry level digital cameras for someone just starting out in photography. It is feature-packed and will grow with you as you learn more about digital photography.

Canon PowerShot A620 wins DIWA Gold Award.
