Canon PowerShot A590 IS

Canon PowerShot A590 IS

Category: Beginner to Serious

The Canon PowerShot A590 IS features 8.0MP resolution, 4x optical zoom with Image Stabilization, a F2.6 maximum aperture, and a shutter speed range of 15-1/2,000 sec. It has a sophisticated styling with a nice grip that fits snugly into the hand. A low-contrast medium dark silver finish combines with silver and chrome accents to give the A590 IS a high-class professional appeal.

An enhanced Face Detection system can select and track a face within a certain range. AF-Point Zoom allows you to zoom the display of the AF frame to check focus when shooting or right after taking a shot. Face Detection AF/AE/FE/WB detects a face, sets focus on the face, adjusts exposure, white balance and ensures the face is correctly illuminated when the flash fires. Red-Eye Correction automatically detects and corrects red eyes when the flash fires.

There is a large high-resolution 2.5-in. LCD screen (115K dots). The Canon A590 allows you to shoot a clip of 640x480 movie at 20fps until the SD memory card is full (4GB clips at a time or 1 hour of shooting).

Motion Detection Technology detects camera shake, brightness of subject and background, and movement of face and subject. By consolidating and analyzing these parameters, it adjusts the intelligent ISO speed to reduce the effects of camera shake and subject movement.

In Auto ISO, the camera favours a lower ISO to ensures the highest image quality. An Easy Mode is ideal for first time camera users and automate all settings, except it conveniently allows you to turn flash off, if flash photography is prohibited at the location you are shooting. More advanced photographers can use Program AE, Shutter-Priority AE, Aperture-Priority AE or Manual mode for total control over exposure settings. Optional Tele and Wide Converters and a Close-up lens provide more flexibility for those who need it.

The Canon PowerShot A590 IS is a digital camera that provides full exposure flexibility at an incredibly affordable price. It is appropriate for beginners who want a digital camera that they can use now in Easy mode and then slowly graduate to the advanced manual modes as they learn more about digital photography.

For about US $50 less, the Canon PowerShot A580 is almost similar but lacks Image Stabilization, Program AE, Shutter-Priority, Aperture-Priority mode, manual focus and does not accept any optional Tele and Wide Converters.
