Canon PowerShot A520 Review
|
Review
Date: June 25, 2005 |

Category: Beginner
to Serious Amateur
The Canon PowerShot A520 replaces the
A85 with a few slight changes: a more powerful
optical (4x) zoom, smaller body (though slightly
thicker), lighter, use of SD or MMC memory card
instead of CompactFlash memory card, use of 2
AA Alkaline batteries instead of 4 AA batteries.
Just like the A85, the Canon A520 features 4.0MP
resolution, shutter speed range from 15-1/2,000
sec., full exposure flexibility including easy-to-use
Scene Modes, and even Custom White Balance for
accurate colour reproduction under artificial
light. You can record movie clips of approx. 30
sec. of 640x480 pixels at 10fps or approx. 3 min.
of 320x240 pixels at 15fps.
Optional accessories for the Canon A520 include:
Wide Converter, Tele-converter, and Close-up Lens.
Recognizing that the built-in flash can sometimes
be too weak to illuminate distant subjects properly,
Canon also provides an optional High-Power Flash
with approximately twice the range of the camera's
built-in flash. For those into underwater photography,
there is a waterproof case effective at depths
of up to 40 meters (130 feet).
The Canon PowerShot A520 (just like the
A510 with 3.2MP resolution) is one of our recommended
affordable entry level digital cameras for someone
just starting out in photography. It is feature-packed
and will grow with you as you learn more about
digital photography.
