Samsung targets the enthusiast photographers with the TL500 / EX1 — a high-end compact digital camera with a bright F1.8 3x optical ultra wide angle zoom lens (24-72mm equiv.), built-in Optical Image Stabilization, a high sensitive 10MP (1/1.7-in.) CCD sensor, and a 7.6-cm (3.0-in.) swivelling AMOLED display (920k-dot) in a very professional-looking all-black metal body.
Samsung is definitely vying for the same crowd that buys the Canon G11, S90 and Panasonic LX3. Its F1.8 (W) – F2.4 (T) lens is one of the brightest available: the Canon G11 has a F2.8 (W) – F4.5 (T) 5x 28-140mm (equiv.) lens, the Canon S90 has a F2.0 (W) – F4.9 (T) 3.8x 28-105mm (equiv.) lens, and the Panasonic LX3 has a F2.0 (W) – F2.8 (T) 2.5x 24-60mm (equiv.) lens.
The 3.0-in. swiveling AMOLED screen allows shooting from pretty much any angle, including those tricky overhead and low-to-the-ground shots. AMOLED provides a higher contrast than LCD and allows for easier viewing in direct sunlight.
Other features advanced photographers will appreciate: RAW file support, PASM shooting modes, manual focus, EV (Front) Dial and Dual Dial.
Movie is 640×480 pixels at 30fps with monaural sound.
The Samsung EX1 is available in black and is priced at about US $450 (CAD $450).
