Fujifilm Canada's New Digital Camera Line-Up
August 29, 2006
I just came back from Fujifilm Canada's
presentation of its newest digital camera
offerings. It was held at the Drake Hotel
[Queen St. & Beaconsfield] in Toronto,
and Jim Jacobs, the Director of Technical,
Imaging & Storage Media at Fujifilm
Canada, was on hand to present Fujifilm's
new 2006-2007 digital camera line-up.
It's an impressive line-up with models
that are easily at the top of their respective
categories. Here is a summary of two of
the models.

Face
Detection technology comes to the Fujifilm
FinePix S6000fd which is
quickly able to identify up to 10 human
faces in real-time and will set the closest
face as the one to focus on and optimize
exposure for.
Unlike competing models where the face
detection tecnology works in software, Fujifilm's
LSI Face Detection is in the S6000fd's processor,
enabling a face to be recognized and focused
on in split-second accuracy (0.04-0.05 sec.).
This allows the photographer to concentrate
on composition where portraits are concerned
with the confidence that the main subject
will always be in focus and properly exposed.
The Fujifilm S6000fd features the newly
developed 6th Generation Super CCD HR which,
together with the Real Photo Processor II,
makes possible an unprecedented ISO 3200
sensitivity at its full 6.3MP resolution.
The result is impressive low-light picture
quality.
A new "Intelligent-Flash" [i-Flash]
system prevents washed-out overexposure
of the main subject when using high ISOs.
Used together with high ISO, i-Flash ensures
that both the background [high ISO] and
main subject [i-Flash] are properly exposed
in low-light situations when flash is used.
A Dual Shot mode takes 2 pictures, one with
flash and one without -- then displays them
side-by-side for on-the-spot comparison.
Picture Stabilization automatically sets
the ISO and shutter speed to prevent blurring
due to camera shake or a fast-moving subject.
The FinePix S6000fd incorporates a 28-300mm
wide-angle zoom lens with manual zoom control.
This allows flexible shooting in all the
major focal lengths in one lens. An optional
wide-angle converter provides a 22.4mm coverage.
Fifteen [15] easy-to-use scene modes automate
exposure in many common picture-taking situations
such as fireworks, beach, snow, sunset,
party.
VGA (640x480) Video movie with sound is
captured at 30fps.
The Fujifilm S6000fd is presented as an
alternative to a Digital SLR.

Just
like its predecessor, the FinePix
F10, the Fujifilm
FinePix F30 can take low-light
pictures as no other consumer digital cameras
can. It's low-noise high ISO capability
sets it world apart from its competitors
who can only claim the availability of high
ISO but not the low noise performance.
The newly developed 6th Generation Super
CCD HR and the Real Photo Processor II make
possible an unprecedented ISO 3200 sensitivity
at its full 6.1MP resolution. The result
is impressive low-light picture quality.
A new "Intelligent-Flash" [i-Flash]
system prevents washed-out overexposure
of the main subject when using high ISOs.
Used together with high ISO, i-Flash ensures
that both the background [high ISO] and
main subject [i-Flash] are properly exposed
in low-light situations when flash is used.
Picture Stabilization automatically sets
the ISO and shutter speed to prevent blurring
due to camera shake or a fast-moving subject.
An extra large 2.5-in. LCD monitor with
a high 230,000 pixels resolution is coated
with Fujifilm's proprietary Clear View Film
to minimize glare and reflections for easy
viewing.
Tired of anemic battery life? The FinePix
F30 uses a Li-ion battery that can take
up to 500 shots before requiring a recharge!
Fifteen [15] easy-to-use scene modes automate
exposure in many common picture-taking situations
such as fireworks, beach, snow, sunset,
party.
Startup is fast at 1.5 sec. and there is
no practical shutter lag.
VGA (640x480) Video movie with sound is
beautifully captured at 30fps.
