Announcing the 2016 AIMIA | AGO Photography Scholarship Winners!

Congratulations to the winners of the 2016 Aimia | AGO Photography Prize Scholarship Program! There were more than 100 applicants this year from 15 participating post-secondary institutions across Canada. The jury, comprised of Adelina Vlas (Associate Curator of Contemporary Art, AGO), Dave Jordano (2015 Winner of the Aimia | AGO Photography Prize) and Cheyanne Turions (independent curator and writer) awarded the three prizes to Catherine Canac-Marquis of Concordia University, Jeff Chiu of Ryerson University and Alexia-Leana Kokozaki of the University of Ottawa, plus a first this year due to the quality of the submissions, an honourable mention prize to Andi Icaza Largaespada of Simon Fraser University’s School for Contemporary Arts.

Meet the 2016 Aimia | AGO Photography Prize Scholarship Winners

The Aimia | AGO Photography Prize is pleased to announce the winners of the 2016 Aimia | AGO Photography Prize Scholarship Program. Valued at C$25,000, the scholarship program, which was inaugurated in 2013, recognizes three full-time students—Canadian or international—who are entering their final year of study toward a bachelor’s degree of fine arts in photography at one of 15 participating post-secondary institutions across Canada.

From a field of more than 100 applicants this year, the jury has awarded Alexia-Leana Kokozaki of University of Ottawa, Catherine Canac-Marquis of Concordia University and Jeff Chiu of Ryerson University C$7,000 each toward tuition for their final year of undergraduate study. Their schools will each receive a C$1,000 honorarium. For the first time ever, the jury has also awarded an honourable mention prize of C$1,000 to Andi Icaza Largaespada of Simon Fraser University.
