The Pentax K-5 II is the nearly identical twin of the K-5 IIs reviewed two weeks ago. This one is built around the same 16 MP CMOS sensor but uses an anti-alias filter to avoid moire artifacts. The remaining specifications are just as impressive: ISO 80-51,200, 7 FPS, Full 1080p HD video and the most sensitive aufocus system of any currently available camera, matching the K-5 IIs of course. This high-end DSLR is fully weather-sealed and freezeproof to -10C (14F), has a 100% coverage optical viewfinder and dual-controls dials. Read the review and be sure check out the ISO comparison with its more expensive sibling.

Not content to map everything in sight and even out of sight, Google is apparently ready to set its sights way up high, to be more precise, at 119,617 nearby stars. While the video above simply takes you on a voyage, try the interactive tool in the link below to “navigate” thru this galaxy of stars. You might want to do this on the Google Chrome browser.
100,000 Stars is an interactive visualization of the stellar neighborhood created for the Google Chrome web browser. It shows the location of 119,617 nearby stars derived from multiple sources, including the 1989 Hipparcos mission. Zooming in reveals 87 individually identified stars and our solar system. The galaxy view is an artist’s rendition based on NGC 1232, a spiral galaxy like the Milky Way.
Who knows, maybe one day, astronauts will be relying on Google Streetview of the Universe to find their way around. Just don’t play the “Sandy Island” prank on us, though, Google. Don’t.

Leonid and Zodiacal Light from Stephane Vetter on Vimeo.
Stephane Vetter captured this beautiful timelapse at Champ du Feu, Alsace, France on Nov 17, 2012 using his Nikon D3 fitted with a Sigma 8mm fisheye lens.
610 shoots with a Nikon D3 and a Sigma 8 mm. Very lucky because the time-lapse was started only 7 minutes before a big meteor passes through the sky …
