Creativity = Copy + Transform + Combine

Tue May 8, 2012

Everything is a Remix. So postulates Kirby Ferguson, a New York-based filmmaker. He has produced a four-part video series on this subject, examining some of our most endearing music, songs, paintings, photographs and inventions. What seems original is shown to be a copy, a transformation and a combination of existing ideas and products. Even Apple is caught in this maelstrom with Steve Jobs openly admitting being “shameless about stealing great ideas.” And going “thermo-nuclear” when he thought others [read, Android] copied Apple.

“When we copy, we justify it. When others copy, we vilify it.”

View the four-part series at: everythingisaremix.
