Fujifilm X10 Review @ TrustedReviews

Wed December 7, 2011

Fujifilm FinePix X10

Fujifilm FinePix X10

In many ways the X10 is the best advanced compact we’ve ever laid our hands on. [...] And while general image quality is some of the best we’ve yet seen in an advanced compact, the white discs issue does present a problem.

We’ve added another Fujifilm X10 [QuickPrice Check] Review in our Reviews Matrix.

TrustedReviews has posted their review of the Fujifilm X10, a premium prosumer compact camera with 12 MP resolution (on a 2/3-in. EXR CMOS image sensor), a F2.0 4x optical zoom (28-112mm equiv.) lens (not interchangeable), 2.8-in. (460k-dot) LCD, PASM, Fly-by-wire manual zoom ring, Optical Viewfinder, Electronic Horizon Leveling Gauge, built-in popup flash, a hot shoe to attach an external flash, 360° Motion Panorama, and Full HD 1080p Movie 1920×1080 pixels at 30fps with stereo sound.

You can read the Fujifilm X10 Review @ TrustedReviews.

Weird Stuff

Another Reason To Avoid Buying A DSLR or Stupidity Reigns In Our Midst

Wed December 7, 2011

This prohibition to using a DSLR takes the prize: “Due to their combination of high-quality sensor and high resolution, digital SLR cameras are unfortunately not permitted inside the station.”

How asinine can this be? This sign is posted at the entrance of the London Transport Museum since digital SLRs “are classed as professional equipment.” Note that there is no ban on taking photos, only on using “big” DSLRs and tripods which could “risk the safety of the majority of people for a minority.”

So is the ban due to the high-quality/high resolution of DSLRs or for safety reason?

So, y’all just bring your non-professional looking compact mirrorless now and you’ll be fine.

University Professors Seek Photographers for Study

Wed December 7, 2011

Want to play guinea pigs for a couple of university professors? They promise to pay you for the study, which is supposed to be a “nature photo contest for professional photographers.” Those who participate will be paid $10, and may be eligible for a $1,000 prize if chosen as the winner.

The researchers are Christopher Sprigman, a professor at the University of Virginia’s school of law, and Chistopher Buccafusco, an assistant professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology’s Chicago-Kent College of Law.

We went through part of it and it seems to be a pretty interesting subject. But we did not go through the whole thing so we don’t know what “ethical” stuff you may encounter down the road (after all, they specialize in intellectual property and apparently had to clear the study with the UVA’s Internal Review Board, aka research ethics committee).

So if you have a couple of minutes to spare, a nice landscape photo, and don’t mind some possibly convoluted outcomes, why don’t you give these two professors a hand in their study?
