Sigma DP1s Review @ TechRadar

Tue August 17, 2010

Sigma DP1s

Sigma DP1s

As a high-end compact it feels rather basic, and its sluggish performance and basic AF options diminish its credibility as a serious SLR replacement.

TechRadar has published their review of the Sigma DP1s [QuickFact Sheet] with 14MP (on a large 20.7 x 13.8mm FOVEON X3 CMOS Image Sensor), F4 16.6mm (28mm equiv.), RAW file format, and PASM modes.

You can read the full Sigma DP1s review at: TechRadar.

ShutterSnitch + iPad + Mobile Router + Eye-Fi = Wireless Photo Review

Tue August 17, 2010

Photographers continue to find ways to use the Apple iPad where previously they needed a laptop plus Wi-Fi transmitter. Now, the Eye-Fi card, a mobile router (since the iPad cannot create a network), and the ShutterSnitch app work together to let tether to the iPad and let you review photos in the field on your iPad as you shoot. The advantage is that you lose about 2.5kg (5lbs) of carry-on weight and gain the fantastic presentation capability of the iPad.

From trollhunter

It takes about 3 seconds to wirelessly transfer each RAW photo. Besides having an easy and attractive way of showing the results to clients on the spot, you can also ftp, post or email your photos right away to remote editors or clients for instant feedback. The $7.99 app plus the price of a mobile router and Eye-Fi card compares well against the $30 Apple Camera Connection Kit.

Note that for those who shoot RAW, you will need to shoot RAW+JPEG because ShutterSnitch saves but does not display RAW.

Tue August 17, 2010

Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W3

Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W3

Fujifilm has announced its new 3D digital camera, the FinePix Real 3D W3, which does not require special glasses to view the image in 3D on the LCD screen. You can capture stills, record HD Movies with stereo sound and watch them on your 3DTV (though 3D glasses are required with some 3DTV systems). The 3.5-in. high-contrast LCD has a high 1.1 Million pixel resolution (compared to the standard 230,000 pixels).

Two separate 3x optical zoom lenses and two 10MP image sensors record images as seen from two perspectives like our eyes do and combine them into one single 3D image. When taking stills photography, you can take a wide-angle and a tele picture with one single click of the shutter button. You can also take a B&W and a Color version of the scene simultaneously. Program Mode (P), Aperture-Priority (A) and Manual (M) are available, but not Shutter-Priority (S).

The MyFinePix Studio Software offers simple and straightforward editing for 3D movies and photos. The software will let you convert 3D photos (MPO) to JPEG format, to re-merge JPEG images into an MPO image, and to edit and combine your 3D movies quickly and easily.

The FinePix REAL 3D W3 Digital Camera featuring: 3D HDTV connectivity, 3.5” high resolution 3D LCD with no glasses required and advanced 2D technology

August 17, 2010 (Mississauga, ON) – Fujifilm is excited to announce the introduction of the FinePix REAL 3D W3 digital camera confirming the company’s strong commitment to leading the future in the 3D photographic imaging business. The NEW FinePix Real 3D W3 digital camera lets you create your own 3D content by recording High Definition 720p 3D movies and pictures. Consumers can play them back using most 3DTV systems or on the FinePix Real 3D W3’s amazing high resolution, 3.5-inch LCD screen. Following the success of the world’s first 3D digital camera launched in 2009, the FinePix REAL 3D W3 pushes the photographic limits with a unique technology to record images as seen from two perspectives, just like your eyes do, using two separate FUJINON lenses and sensors to give you realistic 3D photos and movies.

“We are really excited about Fujifilm’s second generation 3D camera. With the launch of 3DTV systems this year from every brand, consumers are starving for 3D content.
