Shark Hunting!

Tue August 31, 2010

A Thresher Shark hunts with its tail. It’s subtle but watch carefully at about the 0:08 to 0:10 mark as the shark flicks its long tail at the passing school of fish. This is apparently a rarely seen event.

Infrared Photography Tutorial @LearnMyShot

Tue August 31, 2010

Infrared photography is “cool” — even though you are really using the part of the light spectrum that is “thermal” and invisible to the human eye. Infrared photography is used by the military in night vision googles and in astronomy to penetrate dusty regions of space. If you are getting bored of “normal” photography and need something different, then landscape infrared photography can open up a totally new world to your eyes. You can take infrared photos by using an infrared filter on the front of the lens or you can permanently convert your camera to take IR photos.

TOKYO, August 31, 2010—Canon Inc. announced today that it has successfully developed the world’s largest*1 CMOS image sensor, with a chip size measuring 202 x 205 mm. Because its expanded size enables greater light-gathering capability, the sensor is capable of capturing images in one one-hundredth the amount of light required by a professional-model digital SLR camera.

At 202 x 205 mm, the newly developed CMOS sensor is among the largest chips that can be produced from a 12-inch (300 mm) wafer, and is approximately 40 times the size of Canon’s largest commercial CMOS sensor.*2

40,000 Volts Photography

Mon August 30, 2010

Some photographers shine light directly on it, others may even use X-rays to photograph it, but professional landscape photographer Robert Buelteman hooks it up to an electrical charge and zaps it with 40,000 volts to produce photographic ink blots like you’ve never seen before! The “it” is the plant(s) in his garden and if you want one, each print sells between $1,500 to $10,000.
