Jeff Revell over at Revell Photography (aka PhotoWalkPro) loves to take pictures and travel. Combine the two activities and he is capturing great shots in locations that are not too often visited. Out comes his iPad, click on the Google Earth app, open the Layers Menu and click on Panoramio Photos. Enter your location and see if other people have marked interesting sites to photograph. Then, add your own for others to enjoy.

Nikon patent design with AF sensor at the bottom of mirror

NikonRumors have published some interesting Nikon patents having to do with a curved image sensor and various Digital Interchangeable Lens designs, including two with a fixed semi-transparent mirror to reflect part of the light thru the lens onto an AF sensor while letting most of it go on to expose the image sensor. In one design configuration the image sensor is at the back and the AF sensor at the bottom of the mirror; in the second design configuration, the positions of the two are reversed.

• TrustedReviews reports that the Fujifilm FinePix S2500HD [QuickPrice Check] is like having “virtually two cameras image quality-wise, as the wide angle and top end of the zoom produce drastically different results.“. The Fujifilm S2500HD is also known as the S2600HD (and previously as the S2550HD?).
• Camera Labs finds that while the entry-level Sony DSC-W310 [QuickPrice Check] is “an all-round good performer, however, the W310 lacks any outstanding features or qualities… [but] at this price point the Cyber-shot DSC-W310 represents good value for money.“
• Of the TOUGH digital cameras, Steve’s Digicams prefers the Pentax Optio W90 [QuickPrice Check]: “I truly enjoyed using this little guy, and out of all of the lifeproof models I’ve tested, it “looks” the coolest in my opinion.“
• Imaging Resource likes the Nikon Coolpix P100 [Specs] so much that they “have no problems recommending the Nikon Coolpix P100 as a traveling companion for your next vacation or if you just want a versatile digicam at your fingertips.“
• PhotographyBLOG feels that the Sony alpha DSLR-A450 [QuickPrice Check - UK] is “an eminently capable but rather uninspiring DSLR that feels like the stop-gap solution that it is, designed to hit a certain price point in the market.“
• Steve’s Digicams is sure the Fujifilm FinePix HS10 [Specs] will “please those who are looking for a step up from their current point-n-shoot, but are not quite ready to take on the dSLR world.“
• DigitalCameraReview agrees that “with a 30x zoom, the HS10 seems to be the ideal camera in any situation. It delivers a big zoom range, but falls short in other areas.“

• Steve’s Digicams likes the Pentax X90 [QuickPrice Check] finding it “an incredibly versatile Super-Zoom digicam. “
• Imaging Resource finds that with the Sony TX7 [Specs], “Sony has delivered an incredibly stylish, finely designed sub-compact camera that’s a pleasure to shoot with. One of the best and most responsive touchscreens ever released.“
• PhotoRadar is not too impressed with the controls of the Canon IXUS 300 HS / PowerShot SD4000IS [QuickPrice Check] but otherwise “the new High Speed technology in the Ixus 300 HS delivers everything Canon says, and more.“
• PhotoRadar bemoans the disappointingly over-complicated user interface of the Sony NEX-5 [QuickPrice Check] but aside from this, “Sony has designed and built an exceptionally small yet powerful hybrid camera which delivers image quality to match a digital SLR’s.“
