Swallowtail Butterfly in Flight

Fri May 21, 2010

Look carefully and you will find that the butterfly in this video is an artificial one created by Japanese researchers to prove that flight can be realised with simple flapping motions without feedback control.

Gesture-Based User Interface, The Next Frontier?

Thu May 20, 2010

Forget about finger flicking, zooming and page turning. What we really want is a gesture-based user-interface à-la-Minority Report. And this may not be as far away as you think. MIT researchers Robert Wang and Jovan Popović have developed a prototype system that uses a standard webcam and a simple multicolored Lycra glove which looks like something a Cirque du Soleil performer would be wearing.

Gaming will never be the same (I wonder who will bring it to us first?).

Olympus E-PL1 Review @ DigitalCameraInfo

Wed May 19, 2010

Olympus E-PL1

Olympus E-PL1

All in all, we see the E-PL1 as an attractive step-up for point-and-shooters.

We’ve added another Olympus E-PL1 [Specs] Review to our Reviews Matrix.

DigitalCameraInfo has published their review of the Olympus E-PL1, an easy-to-use version of the E-P2 Digital Interchangeable Lens (DIL) camera. The E-PL1 features 12.3MP resolution (on a large 17.3 x 13.0 mm Live MOS sensor), sensor-shift image stabilization to help reduce camera shake, a direct HD Movie button, a 6.9-cm (2.7-in.) LCD display screen (230k-dot), a built-in pop-up flash, Art Filters, Scene Modes, and a new Live Guide that simplifies exposure adjustments without having to know the technical lingo — all in a compact and light body.

Fujifilm FinePix JZ500 Review @ DigitalCameraReview

Wed May 19, 2010

Fujifilm FinePix JZ500

Fujifilm FinePix JZ500

The JZ500 is obviously targeted toward snap-shooters and casual photographers rather than photography enthusiasts [...] a very good choice for travelers, backpackers, hikers and mountain bikers who want a tough, lightweight, “go anywhere” camera.

We’ve added another Fujifilm FinePix JZ500 [QuickPrice Check] Review to our Reviews Matrix.

DigitalCameraReview have published their review of the Fujifilm FinePix JZ500, a compact ultra zoom with 14.1MP resolution (on a 1/2.3-in. CCD image sensor), Sensor-shift Image Stabilization, 10x wide-angle optical zoom (28-280mm equiv.), 2.7-in. LCD (230k-dot), SR Auto, Face Detection with automatic Red-Eye removal, Scene Recognition Auto mode, and HD Movie 1280 x 720 @ 24fps.

You can read the full Fujifilm JZ500 Review at: DigitalCameraReview.

Olympus Stylus 7040 Review @ Steve’s Digicams

Wed May 19, 2010

Olympus Stylus 7040

Olympus Stylus 7040

Olympus’s Stylus 7040 is a full-featured [...] digicam that is compact and easy to use. The camera lacks a little in image quality and the performance is average.

We have added a new Olympus Stylus 7040 (Mju 7040) [Specs] Review to our Reviews Matrix.

Steve’s Digicams has published their review of the Olympus Stylus 7040 (Mju 7040), an ultra slim entry-level point-and-shoot digital camera featuring 14MP resolution (on a 1/2.33-in. CCD), 7x wide-angle optical zoom (28-196 mm equiv.), Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization, Intelligent Auto, In-Camera Panorama (click and pan), AF Tracking technology, Shadow Adjustment Technology, and a large 3.0-in. LCD (230K dots). Magic Filters allow more creative photography and a new Olympus Recommends (OR) button makes it easy to activate the camera’s unique features, including Magic Filters, In-Camera Panorama, Shadow Adjustment or Perfect Shot Preview. Record HD 1280×720 movies with sound @ 30fps.
