Panasonic DMC-G2 Review @ DCRP (dcresource)

Sat May 8, 2010

Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2

Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2

All-in-all, I like the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 [for its] design, the shooting experience, the photo quality, and the ability to record HD movies at the push of a button (literally).

We’ve added another Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 [Specs] Review to our Reviews Matrix.

DCRP (dcresource) has published their review of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2, successor to the G1, with a touch screen interface that can be used to select the focus point, adjust camera settings and fire the shutter (the traditional control buttons are still present). Feature-wise, the G2 is similar to the G1 but adds HD Movie in AVCHD Lite with monaural sound (stereo with optional adapter). The Control Dial has also moved from the front of the handgrip to the back at the thumbrest area.

You can read the full Panasonic G2 Review at: DCRP (dcresource).

The Lipstick Portraits Take on Modern Day Slavery

Sat May 8, 2010

There is nothing more heinous that human trafficking [a US$9.5B business] and especially of children enslaved into the sex slave trade. Each year over a million children are exploited in the global commercial sexual slavery. Many of those children are sold for as little as $10 and some are as young as 5. 2-4 million young women and children will be sold into prostitutiion in the next 12 months…

Somaly Mam was born in poverty into a tribal minority family in the Mondulkiri province of Cambodia. She was sold into slavery as a child, eventually escaped her captors and set about building a new life for herself. Vowing never to forget those left behind, she has since dedicated her life to saving victims and empowering survivors.

In 1996, Somaly established a Cambodian non-governmental organization called AFESIP (Agir Pour les Femmes en Situation Precaire). For her tireless efforts, Somaly has garnered world-wide respect and is now a renowned leader at the forefront of the anti-trafficking struggle. She was honored as one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2009, featured as a CNN Hero, and is the recipient of the Prince of Asturias Award for International Cooperation, The World’s Children’s Prize for the Rights of the Child (WCPRC), Glamour Magazine’s 2006 Woman of the Year Award, and the First Roland Berger Human Dignity Award.

Volvo Fails Crash Test, Again

Sat May 8, 2010

In what is amounting to be an embarassing encore, Volvo has once again failed a crash test demo attended by auto journalists. A new Volvo S60 sedan was aimed straight at the back of a parked truck and its collision-avoidance system was supposed to bring the car to a stop safely. It didn’t. In a telling example of why the snafu occurred, Volvo quickly shifted the blame of the failure to the engineer who prepared the demo, something about a battery not recharged properly? After all, “the system worked flawlessly the day before.
