We all have precious family photos lying around, maybe passed on from our parents. Some may be yellowing from the passage of time and need to be preserved for the next generation. Canon has introduced the CanoScan 9000F Colour Image Scanner to provide an easy way to digitize these keepsakes in high resolution into a pdf file.

This high-speed CCD scanner has a maximum colour resolution of 9600 x 9600 dpi1 (Film). Auto Scan Mode automatically adjusts settings by detecting what is being scanned. FARE Level 3 technology features automatic dust and scratch removal in addition to providing fading, grain and backlight correction. Auto Document Fix sharpens and blackens text to help maintain readability of important documents. The CanoScan 9000F is also capable of scanning slides and film negatives: up to four 35mm slides or 12 35mm filmstrips at one time.

Amount of digital information created in 2010 to reach 1.2 Zettabytes

Tue May 4, 2010

Today EMC released the findings of the new EMC-sponsored IDC study titled, “The Digital Universe Decade – Are you Ready?” The study measures and forecasts data growth rate, i.e. the amount of digital information created and copied annually worldwide. In 2009, the amount of digital information grew 62 per cent over 2008 to 800 billion gigabytes (0.8 Zettabytes).

One Zettabyte equals one trillion gigabytes.

The amount of digital information created in 2010 is estimated to reach 1.2 Zettabytes. That’s the total estimation from all the tweets, blogging, facebook postings, etc. How much is 1.2ZB in practical terms? According to the study, it can be thought of as a full-length episode of FOX TV’s hit series “24” running continuously for 125 million years. Or, as all the people on Earth tweeting continuously for 100 years. One third of all that data will pass through the Cloud.
