Virgin America Airlines Loses Its Innocence

Wed March 17, 2010

Virgin America airlines, long the darling of airlines, seemed to have lost its innocence this past week-end when Flight 404 stranded passengers on board for an excruciatingly long 4.5 or 7 hours (depending on whether you are asking the company or the passengers) the tarmac.

A new law is coming into effect to prevent just this kind of passenger mistreatment by airlines with a maximum of 3 hours on the tarmac allowed before airlines must release passengers (with refunds or overnight hotel stay, etc.).

Why Is Apple Banning The Sale Of Protective Screen Film From Its Apple Stores

Wed March 17, 2010

Why is Apple banning the sale of protective screen film from its retail and online stores? Users of the iPod and iPhone have been purchasing screen film as protection for the devices’ plastic and glass display from scratches and damage. There’s been no report of the iPad and iPhone touchscreen being negatively affected by the protective film on top. Wonder if this has anything to do with the iPad’s new touchscreen?

Ricoh GXR

Ricoh GXR

[The Ricoh GXR/S10] produces compact camera image quality.

We’ve added a new review of the Ricoh GXR [QuickPrice Check] to our Reviews Matrix.

DPReview has posted their review of the Ricoh GXR, an “interchangeable unit camera system” that swaps both the lens and associated image sensor as an integrated unit. F2.5-4.4 VC optical zoom lens with a 10M (1/1.7-in.) CCD sensor, sensor-shift image stabilization, and PASM modes. The camera has a 3.0-in. high resolution (920,000 dots) LCD.

.canon

Wed March 17, 2010

It’s simple, it’s clear and it’s contentious. ICANN’s decision to broadly widen the number of top level domain, that is. Canon has given notice that it is ready to ditch .com and gather all its web properties under .canon by late 2011.

Does it mean that no one else will be allowed to register a domain name ending in the top level domain .canon? Yep, the privilege of obtaining a top level domain name all to yourself [uh, sorry, only companies or organizations need apply] will set you back by about US $185,000 for now.

Do NOT Download IE 9 If You’re Running Windows XP!

Wed March 17, 2010

In a Kafkaesque turn of events, Microsoft has announced that the new Internet Explorer 9 will not work on computers running Windows XP.

ROTFL.

It is undoubtedly a ploy from the Redmond giant to get you to upgrade to Windows 7. Official excuse is that IE 9′s graphics capability is intimately tied to Windows 7′s graphics engine on your computer for faster graphics experience. Not too smart tying a browser to an OS, not too smart at all. So, can we expect IE 10 to be tied to Win 8, etc. forcing users to upgrade OS everytime they want to use the latest IE browser? Wonder if Microsoft will be facing monopolisitc legal issues again?

But, fret not, all you have to do is to simply switch to the friendly Red Fox browser, aka Firefox, a free open-sourced browser made by lots of smart volunteer developers and the de-facto industry standard browser today. If you are not running a browser that is W3C standards-compliant yet, why not do it today? Your Web experience will be markedly improved!

Why, if you are currently viewing this site in IE, try doing it in Firefox for a pleasant surprise.
