Acer’s Frameless Laptop

Wed March 10, 2010

Digitimes is reporting that Acer is planning to introduce a frameless laptop later this year. Imagine two pieces of ultra-thin glass folded onto each other. Open them (like you do with your laptop) and a touch-screen keyboard appears on the bottom glass while the top glass becomes your screen. There’s no frame so the back of the top glass is simply colored [presumably to your choice] to function as a “cover”. All of this is made possible by printing color directly onto Corning’s reinforced glass substrate. No details are available yet, but imagine if Acer adopts an iPad angle: suddenly, the folded glass panels opens up to become an electronic book. Does a two-screen laptop sounds funny to you? Just ask the millions who have bought a Nintendo DS.
