They say a picture is worth a thousand words and it’s become a cliché. Not if you see the pictures [these include digitally manipulated pictures] at One Eyeland, a site for creative photographers — really creative artists. For an idea, just check out their Picture of the Week gallery. Why the name One Eyeland? What else would you call a place dedicated to people who use one eye to record any image for posterity?

Rare Oarfish Sighted

Mon March 8, 2010

Is the Oarfish the sea serpent and dragon of legends? A number of rare oarfish have been washing up along the Sea of Japan and making fishermen, as well as marine biologists, nervous. Blind Camera Takes Pictures With No Lens

Mon March 8, 2010

Imagine a camera with no lens, just a black box with a red button. Point it anywhere you want and press the button and it will take a picture for you. Just not the picture you are pointing the cemara to, but based on the date and time you pressed the shutter, the “camera” will trawl the Web for a photo taken at that exact moment (though if it does not find one immediately, it will keep trying and eventually, perhaps hours later, depending on when someone uploads their photo, find one), and display it on the camera’s screen.

Panasonic Canada Announces Touch-Screen G2

Mon March 8, 2010

Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2

Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2

LUMIX DMC-G2, the world’s first interchangeable lens system camera with touch-control movable LCD

The Panasonic LUMIX G2 Features a Three-Inch Touch-Screen, Allowing for Quick and Intuitive Setting Changes, such as Focus, with a Single Touch

MISSISSAUGA, ON, March 8 /CNW/ – Panasonic Canada Inc. announced today the LUMIX DMC-G2, the world’s first(1) digital interchangeable lens system camera with a touch-control, movable LCD. Successor to the award-winning and revolutionary LUMIX G1, the world’s first Micro Four Thirds digital camera, the LUMIX G2 has intuitive touch-control shooting which elevates the camera’s operability, letting the user adjust auto focus (AF) simply by touching the subject on the large 3-inch 460,000-dot high-resolution LCD. The LUMIX G2 also shoots 720p High Definition video using the AVCHD Lite format, and joins the LUMIX G10, also introduced today, as the latest models in the LUMIX G Micro System.

Using the touch-screen operation, consumers can snap photos by simply touching the LCD screen. This touch-screen operation excels not only for shooting but also during playback, where users can touch one thumbnail to quickly and easily see the full size of the desired photo. Photos can also be dragged across the screen to browse one at a time, as though flipping the pages of a book.

“With the LUMIX G2, Panasonic is pleased to continue to lead the evolution of the Micro Four Thirds platform and be the first in the industry to offer a touch-screen interchangeable lens system camera,” said Doug Borbath, Senior Product Manager, Imaging, Panasonic Canada Inc. “Touch-operation is an interface that many consumers are familiar with and have come to expect – we think they will love how this feature makes it easier and quicker to take photos and videos with professional effects.”
