Skiff Reader

The Skiff Reader measures about 23 x 28 cm (9 x 11 in.) and is only 6.8 mm (0.3 in.) thin. It is a rugged metal foil e-Paper display made of silicon thin-film transistors laid onto a flexible stainless steel substrate. In other words, it is crack-proof and shatter-proof. I like that!

The display size measures 29.2 cm (11.5 in.) diagonal with a 1200 x 1600 pixels resolution (174 ppi). It is touch screen and you can use a stylus or your finger. It accepts a rechargeable Li-ion battery that averages about one week’s worth of reading and wireless usage.

The Skiff Reader is 3G-enabled, WiFi-enabled, with 3+ GB of internal memory available for content, with extra memory supplied by a SDHC card. A built-in speaker accepts a 3.5mm standard audio jack.

Calling young photographers!

You could be awarded the chance to join world renowned photographers on a trip to Ethiopia

To mark the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) on 20 November 2009, the World Photography Organisation, Sony and the United Nations Children’s Fund, are giving six young photographers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to Ethiopia for a photographic workshop complete with mentoring from acclaimed photographer and humanitarian Reza.

For the chance to join the field trip, young photographers between 12 and 18 are being invited to log on to www.worldphotographyawards.org/unicef and show their support for children’s rights by pledging a single photograph, accompanied by a written pledge, highlighting one of the five fundamental children’s rights:

o The right to survival;
o to education;
o to health;
o to protection from harm, abuse and exploitation;
o and to be heard

Six selected young photographers will attend the Sony World Photography Awards and World Photography Festival in Cannes, France in April 2010 where they will collect their award. They will then attend a workshop in Ethiopia for young photographers in Summer 2010.

The 12.1-Megapixel LUMIX DMC-F3 and 10.1-Megapixel DMC-F2 have an impressive 4x optical zoom, considering their small size, as well as Panasonic’s shooting assistant, Auto Scene Mode. The LUMIX F3 also records dynamic High Definition video in 1280 x 720p at a smooth 30 fps, while both shoot in WVGA (848 x 480) and normal VGA (640 x 480). The LUMIX F3 is equipped with a 28mm (28-112mm) wide-angle lens and a 2.7-inch 230,000-dot resolution LCD, designed for clear visibility when shooting still photos and videos. PANASONIC INTRODUCES NEW 64GB AND 48GB SDXC MEMORY CARDS, AVAILABLE GLOBALLY IN FEBRUARY 2010

Olympus Stylus TOUGH 3000

OLYMPUS has announced the Stylus TOUGH 3000, a 12MP digital camera that is waterproof (3 m / 10 ft), freezeproof (-10°C / 14°F), and shockproof (1.5 m / 5 foot drop), making it a perfect companion for active families who spend lots of time in the pool, on the slopes and trekking the great outdoors.

It is the first Stylus Tough camera with 720p HD video, and features a 3.6x wide-angle optical zoom (28-102mm equiv.), Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization, Intelligent AUTO, Scene Modes, Face Detection, In-Camera Panorama Stitching, a Magic Filter (Pop Art, Pin Hole, Fish-Eye and Drawing), AF tracking, Geotagging, and Face Recognition functionality.
