Panasonic GF1 Review @ Steve’s Digicams

Mon January 11, 2010

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1

This is an excellent option for anyone looking for dSLR performance and quality but don’t want to lug around a big camera.

We’ve added another DIL camera review to our Reviews Matrix: the Panasonic GF1 [Specs], a Micro Four-Thirds Digital Interchangeable Lens (DIL) camera. Take a DSLR, remove its mirror, pentaprism/pentamirror and viewfinder, and replace them with a high resolution LCD and electronic viewfinder (so you still are able to see exactly what the lens is seeing) — and you get a DIL: a “mirrorless DSLR” in a more compact and lightweight form. The DIL cameras are the next generation DSLRs and all the rage currently.

Steve’s Digicams has published their review of the Panasonic GF1. They compare the GF1 against the traditional DSLR in image quality and performance.

You can read the full Panasonic GF1 Review (and the conclusion whether the GF1 challenges the DSLRs) at: Steve’s Digicams.

TOP Camera of the Year 2009 @ The Online Photographer

Mon January 11, 2010

The Online Photographer has chosen a different tack in awarding its top award for the best cameras of 2009. It asked 2009 contributors to mention their favorite camera of 2009.

Not surprisingly, the Olympus E-P2 and Panasonic GF1, the Digital Interchangeable Lens (DIL) cameras [aka "mirrorless" DSLRs], were two favorites for their compactness and light weight as compared to a DSLR.

Other winners: Panasonic GH1, Pentax K-x, Leica M9 and Sony A850. Oh, and the Fujifilm GF670 / Voigtlaender Bessa III 120-roll film camera [FOMC]?

How to permanently Delete your Facebook Account

Mon January 11, 2010

Facebook allows you to deactivate your account. But that deactivated account will remain forever on Facebook’s servers and will be reactivated if you sign in again.

Unless you permanently delete it.

So, how do you permanently delete your Facebook account?

There used to be a link to delete an account in Settings or when you deactivated your account (it appeared there after Canada said they would not allow Facebook to operate on its soil unless a user could permanently delete all its info) but you won’t find it now.

It’s still there, but hidden from view.

Here’s how to permanently delete your Facebook account:

The Leica M9 Review @ SteveHuff Photo

Mon January 11, 2010

Leica M9

Leica M9

I also used electrical tape to tape over the red dot and white M9 inscription. To me, this hides the M9’s profile even more.

We’ve added another Leica M9 [Specs] digital rangefinder camera review to our Reviews Matrix.

Ashwin Rao has published his review of the Leica M9 over at SteveHuff Photo. Under the highly complimentary title “The Leica M9 – Travel Camera Extraordinaire,” Ashwin’s stated goal is “to convince you that the Leica M9 is THE travel camera to have and use.”

You can read Ashwin’s full Leica M9 Review at: SteveHuff Photo.
