The Day The Berlin Wall Fell

It was 20 years ago on Monday, Novermber 9, 1989 that the surprised residents of East Germany heard that they would not be forcibly restricted from crossing the Berlin Wall anymore. Overnight, residents climbed on top of the wall and in the days that followed, started to dismantle pieces of it to allow passage to the West. Tens of thousands of East Germans fled the communist regime. Today, the original Checkpoint Charlie, the focus of many a spy thriller, is gone, but has been rebuilt as a tourist attraction.
